Margarida Fortes DeBurgo (Guidinha), 87, formerly of Pawtucket and most recently of North Providence, RI, left this world peacefully on November 29, 2024 after courageously battling many years of failing health.

Margarida was born in the island of Brava, Cape Verde on January 17, 1937 to the late Miguel Goncalves (Paizinho) and Clara Fortes (Cacai Djon Cacai); she grew up in the island of Sao Vicente before journeying to Dakar, Senegal in her mid twenties, and eventually emigrating to the United States.

Margarida is survived by her children Orlando DeBurgo and his wife Benvinda (Vinda) of North Providence, RI who looked after her and remained by her side for numerous years; Yolanda DeBurgo of Coral Springs, FL, and Jean Joseph DeBurgo, of Coral Springs, FL. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Jacqueline Metayer and her husband Gilbert of Tamarac, FL; Brianna Jones and her husband Denzel of North Providence, RI; Kassandra DeBurgo Dass of Coral Springs, FL; Alexander Melton and his wife Emma of South Kingstown, RI; Khadija DeBurgo of North Providence, RI; Jean Joseph Harrington of TX; and Jaiden DeBurgo of Plantation, FL. She was blessed with five great grandsons and most recently with her first and only great granddaughter, whom she unfortunately did not get to meet.

Guidinha was predeceased by her husband Jose DeBurgo many years ago, and by her first grandson Joseph Vieira (Joey) of Pawtucket, RI a few years ago. She also leaves behind a brother Manuel DeBarros (Nei) of Brockton, MA, several first cousins, and other extended family.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Keefe Funeral Home in Lincoln, RI. Her funeral will begin on Thursday, December 5th starting at 10:00 am at Keefe Funeral Home, with a funeral home service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow so that Margarida can be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Jose, in Notre Dame Cemetery in Pawtucket, RI.

As Margarida's sole caregivers, surrogates, and confidants, Orlando and his wife Vinda wish to acknowledge the entire staff at Golden Crest Nursing Centre for their dedicated and unwavering professionalism, and would like to extend their sincere gratitude for all the steadfast support in Margarida's time of most need.
